A sound portrait of Stourhead

This sound piece was one that intrigued me quite a lot; on the basis it is a piece with no speech or human interaction included it is very much based around the sounds of nature. The first thing that comes to mind when you think of nature is peace and serenity, and to begin with this sound piece did start of giving the listener that type of vibe; birds and rain were heard and everything began quite calm. However, not even half way through, an almost eerie vibe took over with the sound of the constant creaking of a gate or a metal fence, with the added sound of the rain/ water drops playing constantly this completely switched the mood and initial vibe of the sound piece. Just over halfway through a gunshot was heard further emphasising the twist in atmosphere, following this was the sounds of crows obviously startled by the blast; as crows signify death it gives quite a drastic juxtaposition to the start of the clip where peaceful birds were heard singing and perhaps that was unintentional however it works very well with piece. Towards the end we hear the squelching of mud and finally another gunshot to finish the piece, this further emphasises the point made before and instead of giving the listeners closure it leaves more questions than it does answers, which in most cases is a very clever and more interesting technique to the audience.
